An incredible four year old boy saved his mother’s life when he called paramedics to come and help her. Jacob Onions discovered that his mum was unconscious on the floor in the kitchen and called 999 to tell operators: “Mummy is asleep and won’t get up”.
The little boy somehow managed to remain calm when he found is mum Gemma, 33, after she fell and bashed her head at their house in Telford. The schoolboy tried to wake her up, but when she did not open her eyes, he called emergency services and asked them to send an ambulance.
Even though Jacob has speech difficulties, he managed to tell the operator: “Mummy is on the floor. Mummy has hurt herself. She isn’t talking.” He then managed to answer call handler Kelly Morgan’s questions as she asked him about how his mother was.
When Ms Onions finally wakes up, she says that she had fallen over and hit her head, but could not move her legs. Paramedics rushed her straight to hospital, where she is now having tests to try to diagnose a condition which has left her having seizures up to four times every week.
Ms Onions, who also has two older girls, says she believes Jacob saved her life. The mother said that her two daughters were both at school, so it was just herself and the four year old in the house. She praised his actions, especially as he has speech problems which mean that he finds putting sentences together very difficult.
Ms Morgan, who picked up the call, said that it had been a difficult call and she had struggled at first to understand what was happening. However, she said that Jacob had been amazing and had managed to follow instructions so that his mother could get the medical help she needed.
