Blurred Lines hitmaker Robin Thicke has lost custody of his little boy following a court battle with his ex wife, the actress Paula Patton. The pair had been sharing custody of the six year old following their split, but Ms Patton instigated a custody hearing after the child said his father hit him.
A judge has now issued a restraining order against the 39 year old singer, who must now stay away from his former partner, after she accused him of emotional and physical abuse. He can now only have monitored visits with his son, Julian, and he has also been banned from going anywhere near his former mother in law, Joyce.
Ms Patton said the popstar had left her and her son traumatised after demanding that he be allowed to visit, and refusing to leave her mother’s house. She claims that Mr Thicke turned up while Julian was talking to a social services team, and only left when she called police. However, Mr Thicke’s legal team said that there was no reason to issue a restraining order, and that Ms Patton was only acting out of retaliation after she was denied sole custody of Julian earlier this year.
Ms Patton, however, says that Mr Thicke physically abused her while they were married, and that he pushed her to the ground and kicked her during a row which broke out in 2013. The actress said that he had cheated on her a number of times while they were still together, and that he had a substance abuse problem. Her lawyers said that his behaviour while they were still married made Ms Patton fearful of “serious bodily injury” to herself and her son. Mr Thicke has admitted spanking his son, but says this was a punishment technique agreed between himself and his former wife while they were still married.
