President Donald Trump has branded Chelsea Manning an “ungrateful traitor” after she wrote a critical piece on ex-President Barack Obama implying he was a weak leader in her Guardian Column.

Earlier this month Chelsea Manning learned her prison sentence was to be commuted by former president, Barack Obama.  She was jailed after leaking thousands of documents to Wikileaks.

Manning, a transgender activist writing in her column for The Guardian said that Obama’s time in office was disappointing and they needed a genuinely progressive politician.  She said that he was too eager to compromise with political opponents and this is why he has few permanent achievements.

She concluded, “The one simple lesson to draw from President Obama’s legacy: do not start off with a compromise.”

She then went on to call on liberals to become more actively involved at making changes.

Donald Trump, however, took to Twitter on Thursday to condemn the column labelling Manning an “ungrateful TRAITOR”.  He tweeted, “Ungrateful TRAITOR Chelsea Manning, who should never have been released from prison, is now calling President Obama a weak leader”

Sentenced Commuted

Manning’s original sentence was 35 years, and now she will be released in May.  She was at the time of releasing the documents a man, Private Bradley Manning.

Interestingly, although she implied Barack Obama was a weak leader she did not actually use the words directly.  Conversely, President Trump often said that Obama was a weak leader and often praised the leadership of Vladimir Putin when campaigning in the election.

When manning heard she was to be released from prison in May, she tweeted, “Thank you @BarackObama for giving me a chance.”

In her Guardian piece, she was particularly critical of Obama for trying to compromise with others that hated him and refused to compromise an inch.

Manning also called for people to stop waiting for rights but to take the reins of government and fix institutions.
