Green roof with sustainable garden

adds environmental comfort to the house, see!

Instead of using traditional roofs, the roof of this house is green (with vegetation). The great advantage of the green roof is that it adds thermal comfort, well-being, pleasant appearance, in addition to absorbing rainwater. The architect Angela Bohrer and this blogger who writes you have designed these green roofs for the house. On the concrete slab, a garden was created where spices, fruit and native plants are cultivated that attract hummingbirds. A space was transformed into a green area which, if paved, would be arid and lifeless.

The garden was planned during the house design stage. This was fundamental so that the final weight, when the shrubs were already grown, were foreseen in the structural design. The waterproofing of the concrete slab, the trim and the draining of the terraces are fundamental for the success of the hanging garden. The grass, perfumes and spices created a cozy atmosphere for the house.

In the sequence of photos below we have the step by step of the execution of the garden: the placement of the bidim on the gravel, the substrate and the ready garden, some months after implanted. All of this work was possible thanks to the projects of engineers and architects and their technical support. The team of professionals formed by Arch. Angela Bohrer, the team of engineers from Appel Engenharia, captained by eng. Paulo Appel, structural engineer Claudia Kusiack planned and executed the residence with the green roof. The green roof was planned and executed by eng. agronomist Helena Schanzer and, before the house was completed, the gardens were ready. The planting team was Eng. Agricola Egon Zounar.

The photo terrace is 3 meters above the ground and is over the garage of the house. On the green roof, the product used as “soil” was made with organic compost and eucalyptus bark. This organic compound, also called organic fertilizer, results from the treatment of organic waste from the cellulose manufacturing process. This substrate guarantees perfect drainage, density, and permeability for the garden to function, as it retains water in the right amount for the vegetation and is not soaked. The green roof system creates a “sponge” to absorb rainwater and rainwater, which is collected in a system to be reused for irrigation.

  • Phosphorus:  helps in plant growth;
Organic fertilizer

Produced through vegetable or animal waste, this type of fertilizer can be made at home, through the decomposition of food. Suitable for large areas, it is responsible for developing microbial flora, which consequently improves soil conditions.

Chemical fertilizer
With nutrients in the necessary amount, the chemical fertilizer accelerates the development of plants and has no smell, that is, it is a great option for pots that decorate the interior of the house.
